Something I’ll Never Forget…

It was game 3 vs the Thunder. Memphis, TN at FedEx Forum.
Sometime in the 4th quarter a typically cheesy and cliche song at this point came on. We Will Rock You by Queen. You’ve heard it and We Are The Champions so many times you roll your eyes every time.
This time though, 18,000+ Grizzlies fans stomped and clapped with the song.
The lyrics seemed personal. Written for just us. Like Freddie Mercury knew that one day in Memphis, a basketball team would need to hear from the crowd what it thought about the night.
“We Will, We Will Rock YOU!”
Directed at every Thunder player individually.
You could feel the words in the air. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my life. You could feel the Thunder players wilting. Shrinking in stature. You could feel the air filled with those words inflating every Grizzlies players lungs.
A few short minutes later, the Thunder were rocked and for days after it felt like finally Memphis was literally on top of the world.
I’ll never forget the deafening, brain rattling loudness of 18,000+ people screaming lyrics as loud as they can with a PA that was cranked up just to cut through all our noise.
I’ll never forget that feeling.
